Missing mace, brinkmanship blamed for the Free State’s inability to hold the key position in the budget process

For the first time in three decades since the advent of democracy in the province, the Free State legislature has failed to deliver its medium-term budget policy speech on the scheduled date, amid wrangling within the ANC’s provincial leadership , which would have consequences for the ministries as well as the legislature.
