KwaZulu-Natal Prime Minister Thami Ntuli is encouraging parents to open statutory rape cases against men who impregnate girls under the age of 18. Ntuli and the provincial health MEC welcomed Christmas babies at Victoria Mxenge Hospital.

On Christmas morning at 6:30 am, 47 babies had already been delivered in the province.

Among these mothers are three 15-year-old girls.

“The news that there are 14- and 15-year-old children impregnated by the older men – we are concerned, and that shows that something is wrong in our society. We are concerned, and we are hopeful that the police will play their role when the report is made, because the unfortunate part is that when such incidents happen, sometimes parents will say that we cannot report it to the police, because the father might be able to take care of it. of a child, while to impregnate someone who is a minor, we know that this is the criminal case. So it is serious rape to have intercourse with a child of that age. That is why I encourage parents to report the incident to the police,” said Ntuli.

Some new parents who delivered their babies at Victoria Mxenge Hospital shared their joy and excitement.

“I feel special, and I feel like it was just God’s plan. I didn’t know it would work out today, and I think it’s a blessing. It was very painful, but it was worth it, and I am proud of my baby. I would never have met MEC; I would never have met him, so I am proud,” says one of the parents.
