CAPE TOWN – Seven people have tragically lost their lives after the bus they were travelling in overturned on the N1 at Roux Park in Worcester on Sunday.
The Western Cape Mobility Department said several others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.
It is unclear at this stage what led to the incident, but authorities are investigating.
Department spokesperson, Muneera Allie, said that the bus was travelling from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town when the incident occurred. Â
“Preliminary reports have indicated multiple fatalities and injuries. EMS, Fire, SAPS, and Traffic are on scene. Updates will be provided once confirmed information is available.” Â
This accident comes just days after the provincial Transport Department launched its festive season road safety campaign.
