The formal bail application of a Limpopo farmer who is accused of killing Maria Makgato and Lucia Ndou whose bodies were found in a pigsty in Sebayeng outside Mankweng has been postponed to 22 November 2024 and the matter will be heard at the Polokwane Regional Court.
Zacharia Olivier, the owner of the Onverwacht farm near Kotishing village in Sebayeng and his workers Rudolph De Wet and William Musoro appeared briefly in the Mankweng Magistrate’s court earlier today.
The accused face two counts of premeditated murder, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and defeating the ends of justice.
Musoro also faces an additional charge of contravening the Immigration Act.
The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson in Limpopo Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi says the matter in relation to accused 2 and 3 has been postponed to 18 February 2025 for further investigations.
She says the accused are all remanded in custody.
Meanwhile, Andries Rheeder, the defence lawyer for accused number 1 in the Sebayeng pig farm double murder case, says he is disappointed that the Polokwane High Court has set aside their appeal for access to the police statement of their client.
Rheeder says his client has not been doing well in custody health wise and this is what they wanted to bring up in the bail application.
He says while they are disappointed in Tuesday’s ruling by the Polokwane High Court on their appeal to access their client’s police statement, they welcome the outcome.
