A prominent figure in South Africa’s alleged organised crime circles, 57-year-old Mark Lifman, was shot dead in the parking area of the Garden Route Mall in George on Sunday.
Police say the shooting took place at around 11:30, and the suspects fled in a white VW Polo with a CY registration number.
Lifman was facing multiple serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, money laundering, and gang-related offences.
Lifman, security company owner Andre Naude and alleged Sexy Boys gang leader Jerome ‘Donkie’ Booysen, along with several others, face a plethora of charges linked to alleged underworld battles for the control of nightclubs.
They have been charged with the murder of Brian Wainstein, who was gunned down in his Constantia home in August 2017.
Lifman’s activities have been under scrutiny for years, and his name is frequently mentioned alongside other high-profile figures, such as Jerome ‘Donkie’ Booysen and Nafiz Modack, due to alleged involvement in gang networks and violence within the Cape Town area.
Lifman was due to appear in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.
No arrests have been made.
