Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers successfully recovered five stolen and hijacked vehicles across various locations in Tshwane over the weekend.
TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said police officers received a tip-off while conducting routine crime prevention duties in Hatfield on November 22.
“The tip-off was regarding a grey Toyota Yaris that was stolen in Lyttelton, Centurion.”
He said officers acted promptly on the information and traced the vehicle to the Gateway complex on Francis Baard Street, where they found it idling and abandoned.
“Police found a signal jamming device inside the vehicle, but the suspects had fled the scene under pressure from the responding officers.”
Mahamba said the TMPD Tactical Unit also recovered a GWM Steed that was hijacked in Soshanguve on the same day.
He said officers continued their successful streak on November 23 by recovering a grey Chery Tiggo vehicle in Soshanguve Block H, which had been stolen during a robbery in Rustenburg, North West.

“The vehicle was recovered at Lotus Gardens in Pretoria West,” he added.
Despite the successful recoveries, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with these incidents.
Mahamba urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or crime.
Residents can contact the TMPD or the SAPS on 012 358 7095/6 with any information related to illegal activities.
Chief of TMPD, Commissioner Yolanda Faro, commended the officers for their dedication and hard work.
“Well done to the TMPD officers. We will leave no stone unturned in our fight against crime in Tshwane,” said Faro.
