Illegal Mining | Police say miners are not trapped, they refuse to resurface

PRETORIA – A bid to permanently end the blockade at a Stilfontein mine shaft has been postponed to Thursday.

It was postponed to give the applicant time to respond to the government’s answering affidavit. In the meantime the interim interdict against the blockade still stands.

Authorities are ramping up efforts to extract the miners still underground. Teams have now arrived on site.

This follows requests from miners to have access to their prescribed anti-retrovirals.
