Illegal mining | Community members concerned about pace of miners’ rise to the surface

STILFONTEIN – Community members say they are concerned at the slow pace of efforts to bring miners at Stilfontein mine in the North West back to the surface.

Hundreds of people have been underground for weeks without food or water. 

Locals have volunteered to help bring the miners to the surface, after police made it clear that no officer will go underground to assist illegal miners.

Bongani Jonas, National Youth Coordinator for Youth Affected By Mining United in Action, is a negotiator giving miners updates on the rescue plan, and discussed the situation with eNCA.
