PRETORIA – Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina says although there are water supply shortages in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, steps are being taken to avoid a complete shutdown.Â
She updated the country on her department’s performance during the first 100 days in office.
“In terms of water balance, the country is fine,” she said.
“But there is localised deficit, especially coming from Gauteng and eThekwini Municipality, reasons being that the growing population, growing economy, non-revenue water and decay in infrastructure it also plays into the crisis where these areas might not have water.”
She said certain measures have been put in place to ensure that there are no water cuts.
