JOHANNESBURG – The Mineral Resources Department is dismissing accusations that it’s failing to stop illegal mining. 

This as over a thousand illegal miners were arrested in North West after being forced to resurface.

Zama zamas are taking advantage of the over 6,000 abandoned mines in the country. 

But who is responsible for these mines after companies leave? 

Mikateko Mahlaule, chairperson of Parliament’s portfolio committee on mineral and petroleum resources, spoke to eNCA.
