JOHANNESBURG – The Democratic Alliance (DA) is accusing Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi of violating the Executive Members Ethics Act.
The party said that Lesufi unethically interfered with disciplinary processes for legislature employees.
The DA added that it has written to the Public Protector to probe these allegations.Â
The claims stem from a high court affidavit by former secretary to the Gauteng legislature, Peter Skosana.
Skosana sued the legislature for breach of contract after he was fired from his job with time left on his contract.
In his affidavit, Skosana said that in October last year, he was called into a meeting by ANC Chief Whip Lesego Makhubele, which also included Lesufi and four other ANC legislature members. \
Skosana said that in the meeting he was told to delay his investigation into fraudulent travel and subsistence claims by legislature employees. Â
DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga said that this was unethical.
Skosana has since left the legislature after reaching a R6 million out-of-court settlement.
