The City’s Transport Regulations branch has officially launched a new WhatsApp channel, to facilitate effective communication with the City’s public transport industry. Minibus and metered taxi operators are now able to use the number in order to confirm their operational status, Cape {town} Etc reports.

Public transport operators can now report route conflicts and invasions. In addition, they are also now able to schedule meetings with the branch and reference frequently asked questions.
Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, commented that in the past relevant operators had to submit requests and supporting documents via email and the information then had to be captured manually. The channel is thereby time-saving and a shorter turn-around time is expected.
The WhatsApp number is 083 375 1725.
Operators and drivers merely have to send a text message to the number, saying ‘hi’ and follow the automated prompts.
This development is indicative of the City’s commitment to working smarter, to keep Cape Town moving.
