As Gauteng continues to grapple with increased water demands, consumption, unauthorised connections and illegal mining, Rand Water has imposed Level 1 water restrictions which will be in place until March 2025.
Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu said Mogale City currently consumes 354 010 00 litres per day, which is 11 100 000 litres per day over the city’s permitted limit.
“This significant increase in water consumption has also resulted in a decline of the city’s overall reservoir storage capacity, compelling the municipality to implement level one water restrictions with immediate effect,” she worryingly said.
To restore and maintain reservoir levels while also complying with the bulk supplier’s permitted daily limits, all communities within the municipal area are urged to reduce water consumption and adhere to the following level one restrictions:
• Irrigation of gardens with a hosepipe is prohibited
• General watering gardens is prohibited between 06:00 to 18:00
• Cleaning patios and driveways with a hosepipe is also not allowed
“In the interest of conserving and saving this valuable resource, the municipality once again calls on members of the public to comply with the restrictions,” she urged.
