A 35-year-old man convicted for his role in the murders of seven people on a Free State farm in 2022 has been jailed for life on each of the murders, plus a further 35 years on other charges.
Free State police said on Thursday that 35-year-old Kamohelo Motankisi from Tlholong near Kestell has been convicted by the Free State High Court.
The second suspect, Tseko Selepe, was sentenced in March to an effective prison term of 30 years.
Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the two faced a total of 12 charges.
Their victims were six women and one man: Paulinah Mothoduwa Moloi (37), Nontwasefani Loti Smith (54), Nokufa Portia Mofokeng (31), Lerato Julie Moloi (34), Nomasonto Christinah Zulu (57), Nomasonto Maduna (44), and Rhudie Binta (18).
Mophiring said some victims suffered multiple stab and gunshot wounds, while two of the women were sexually assaulted “in the course of committing the senseless murders.”
He said Motankisi had also taken the stand to apologize to the victims’ families after the sentencing.
