Coming into the bout with only six fights under her belt, Mkandla was considered the underdog against Nxokwana, a seasoned champion with 15 fights to her name. Doubters questioned her readiness and ability to face such a formidable opponent, but Mkandla embraced the challenge with her favourite saying: “Don’t ever doubt me.”

The crowd was captivated by Monica’s skill, resilience, and tenacity as she navigated each round with focus and precision. From the opening bell, she set the pace, delivering powerful punches and expertly defending against Nxokwana’s attacks.

Her strategic prowess and athletic prowess were evident as she outmanoeuvred her more experienced opponent, ultimately securing the victory through the judges’ unanimous decision.

Mkandla’s victory not only silenced her critics but also served as an inspiring reminder of the power of resilience and self-belief. Her impressive performance has cemented her status as a rising star in South African boxing, and a powerful new contender in the Bantamweight division.
