Along with sponsoring 50 computers, Liquid also ensured that high-speed internet connectivity is available, along with a dedicated full-time assistant so that learners from four schools in the community will now have access to basic digital and computer literacy skills and courses.

“The launch of the first digital centre in the North-West Province not only reaffirms Liquid South Africa’s commitment to the province and the region; it reflects our commitment to empowering the country’s youth with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities essential to promoting their socio-economic advancement and inclusivity in the digital economy,” noted Deon Geyser, CEO of Liquid Intelligent Technologies South Africa.

“We are proud to be contributing to the upliftment of individuals and communities through ongoing investments in programmes and initiatives such as this, aimed at bridging the digital divide,” he added in a release shared with Hypertext.

Liquid explained that this latest investment by in the North-West Province builds on its successful STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Digital Literacy programme, which focused on aimed at enhancing essential skills for Grade 11 and 12 learners. Another initiative in the region is the Youth Tech Entrepreneurship Programme, which provides local youth with advanced digital, technical, and entrepreneurial skills and capabilities.

To date, more than 300 students from schools in the Makapanstad region of the North-West have benefited from the STEM programme, according to Liquid, with the latest intake including learners from host school Sempapa Secondary School, Kgaphamadi Secondary School, Matlaisane High School, and Sekitla Secondary School.

“The programme has already seen fantastic results, with the mathematics pass rate jumping from 11% to 84% after its first year, including 14 distinctions, and similar results achieved in the other subjects,” Liquid pointed out.

“Liquid’s significant investment in developing digital, STEM, and business skills amongst the youth of the North-West Province resonates with the company’s vision of a digitally connected future that leaves no African behind,” it concluded.

Here’s hoping the company is planning to launch more computer centres of this nature to assist learners with access to technology and digital skills.
