Limpopo pigsty double murders: Judgement on appeal matter between State & accused set for Fri

JOHANNESBURG – Judgment in the case of a Limpopo farmer accused of murdering two women and feeding their remains to pigs will be delivered in the Polokwane High Court on Friday.

The farm owner, Zachariah Olivier, wants the State in the matter to release a statement he made to police upon his arrest in August, where he claimed details therein are crucial for his bail application.

Limpopo High Court Judge President George Phatudi will deliver judgment on an appeal matter between the State and Olivier.

Olivier stands accused with his two employees, Adriaan de Wet and William Musora, of shooting and killing Mariah Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu and then dumping their bodies in a pigsty on Olivier’s farm, just outside Polokwane.

Olivier is determined to get access to the statements he made to police upon his arrest, but the State refusing to release them to his attorney.

In August, the court granted Olivier access to his statements, but the State took the matter on appeal to the High Court.

“The State argued that the appellant are not entitled to the statement because the law does not permit them at this stage. They will access the contents of the dockets when we reach the trial,” said the National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson – Mashudu Dzangi.

The finalisation of the appeal will allow the case to proceed to bail application, which set down for next month.
