Discussion | Food poisoning incidents highlight urgent need for school nutrition

JOHANNESBURG – In the wake of recent food poisoning incidents in SA schools, food nutrition programs are in the spotlight.

Statistics show approximately 9.7 million children in the country rely on the national school nutrition program.

The government spent approximately R8.4 billion in 2022/23 on its nationwide feeding scheme.

Non-profit organisation Feed Our Kids is calling for a centralised nutritional school feeding programme.
