The Limpopo Artists’ Movement (LAM) says calls to boycott Oscar Mbo’s shows are imminent as they demand a formal apology.
The LAM condemned the alleged mistreatment of Lekompo rising star Melita Mogale, popularly known as Kharishma, by Oscar and his entourage.
This comes after Oscar allegedly forcefully removed Kharishma from the stage while performing.
The incident, which has caused outrage on social media platforms, occurred at the Blouberg Spring Annual festival, held at Senwabarwana Stadium in Limpopo on Saturday, September 28.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Mphoza Mashabela, the founder of Limpopo Artists’ Movement, strongly condemned the treatment of Kharishma.
“We demand respect for Limpopo artists and call on promoters to treat them with dignity. Any promoter found favouring Gauteng artists at the expense of locals will face boycotts and blacklisting,” he said.
“As a union, we advocate for equality and will not allow discriminatory practices to persist. We are aware of some promoters’ lack of experience, leading to poor time management and unfair treatment of Limpopo artists. We demand Oscar and his team to issue a formal apology to Kharishma, failure of which will necessitate a letter of demand for compensation towards Kharishma for damages to her brand and emotional distress, and lastly the organiser of the Blouberg Festival must also apologise to Kharishma. We protect our artists, who are our priority.”
Oscar has apologised to the rising star in the comment section of Kharishma’s post of complaint.
“Apologies to you my sister,” he wrote.
Oscar and his manager refused to comment on the matter.
