Four men have thus far been arrested in connection with the murder of Hester Flemming (52) and her mother, Cecilia Johanna Flemming (82), in Eikenhof.
One suspect was arrested on Sunday morning and found in possession of some of the stolen property which went missing during the home invasion on October 25.
During the home invasion, the Flemmings were taken from their home. The search and rescue for the two women then started.
Their bodies were discovered on October 28.
Three more suspects were apprehended on Monday after following up on leads and more stolen property was also recovered.
The suspects led the police to an old, abandoned farmhouse with a large hole at the back.
The old house is situated next to the Jackson informal settlement. It was found that the premises are used by zama zamas for illegal mining.
The bodies were discovered in the hole and brought to the surface. The motive for the robbery and murder has yet to be determined.
According to a member of Mike Bolhuis’ task team, charges that can be laid against the suspects include robbery and theft, kidnapping and now also murder. The suspect in possession of the stolen goods can also be charged with possession of stolen property.
More charges can be laid at a later stage, depending on the outcome of the post-mortem.
The possibility that there are more suspects involved cannot be ruled out.
Private investigator Mike Bolhuis from Specialised Security Services said since the women were reported missing every lead was pursued and countless hours were dedicated to the case.
One of his task team said: “The SAPS investigation team works hard to come to the bottom of the story. We urge anybody with information to come forward and share information. All information will be dealt with confidentially.”
