Weather service issues warning of severe thunderstorms, hail, and heavy downpours for Gauteng  | News24

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), Tuesday afternoon’s weather brings severe thunderstorms to southern Gauteng, with isolated showers and thundershowers in many other provinces across the country.

Impact-based warnings

A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy downpours, has been issued for the southern parts of Gauteng. These may damage formal and informal settlements and flood roads, low-lying areas, and bridges.

SAWS instructed that people avoid crossing flooded roads and swollen streams. Where rising water levels are observed, move to high grounds.

When outdoor during lightning activity: immediately get out and away from ponds, lakes and other bodies of water, never shelter under an isolated tree and stay away from objects that conduct electricity.
