Two suspects arrested for stolen Ford Ranger in Rosendal, Free State

By Phenyo Selinda

Rosendal – Free State police have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of a Ford Ranger worth R900,000. The incident, which occurred on the morning of 31 August 2024, has sent shockwaves through the quiet community of Hennenman.

According to Sergeant Martin Xuma, a police spokesman, the 37-year-old owner of the Ford Ranger and his wife were on their way to their home in Hennenman when they were attacked by three unknown suspects. The assailants, brandishing a firearm, threatened the couple before fleeing with the valuable bakkie and kidnapping the victim’s wife.

The incident occurred around 4:10 a.m., putting the Hennenman community on high alert. Shortly after the carjacking, the victim’s wife was dropped off unharmed at a cemetery in Welkom. She showed remarkable composure and was able to return home to her distraught husband, who had been left behind during the ordeal.

In response to the carjacking, Hennenman police quickly activated neighboring stations to look for the stolen vehicle. The intensive search paid off when the stolen Ford Ranger was located in Rosendal later that evening, at approximately 8:30 p.m. The police operation, reinforced by officers from the Senekal District, led to the successful arrest of two male suspects, aged between 35 and 40.

“The suspects are expected to appear before the Rosendal District Court soon, where they will be charged with possession of a stolen vehicle,” confirmed Sergeant Xuma. The third suspect involved in the crime is still at large, and police are intensifying their efforts to bring him to justice.
