The slain 19-year-old Kungawo Nyweba has been buried at her village in Middledrift outside Alice in the Eastern Cape.

Mourners gathered to say their final goodbyes to the young woman.

Her remains were found burnt beyond recognition in Makhanda in July after she was reported missing.

Three people have been arrested for her death and are facing murder and kidnapping charges.

The spokesperson for the family, Bandile Nyweba, says it has been a difficult two months for the family.

“We are thankful for the opportunity that we have now buried Kungawo in peace. We will finally have closure because it has been a painful period for the family. I think it’s been two months waiting to bury the remains of Kungawo. So now we finally move on with our lives, we will get closure.”
