Opposition tells DA govt to find money for teachers in Western Cape

CAPE TOWN – Opposition parties in the Western Cape are calling on the provincial government to find money to stop cutting of over 2,000 teacher posts at the end of the year.

During urgent debate in the provincial legislature, Education MEC David Maynier has put the blame squarely at the door of the national government and its budget cuts.

He’s calling on the Government of National Unity to prioritise education.

But opposition parties, including the ANC, say the DA-led provincial government must stop playing the blame game, and re-prioritise the provincial budget.
