THREE Northern Cape men will be spending the next three years behind bars after being convicted of a high-stakes stock theft in Loxton.

Pieter Booysen, 27, Kevin Bostander, 29, and Wesley van Rooi, 25, were sentenced on September 5 for stealing a prized stud ram valued at a whopping R100,000.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the theft occurred on February 26 from a farm near Loxton, where the valuable ram was being prepared for international export.

The trio were arrested, found guilty and handed three-year direct imprisonment sentences by the Loxton Magistrate’s Court.

Lieutenant-Colonel Kock said that the SAPS management in the Northern Cape commended the efforts of Detective Sergeant Winston Julies from the De Aar Stock Theft and Endangered Species unit. His “meticulous investigation” played a key role in bringing the three culprits to justice.
