Murder accused Hendrick Visagie to appear in court.

HENDRICKS Johannes Visagie will appear at the Belfast Regional Court in Mpumalanga on Tuesday, 17 September.

Visagie is accused of killing a fellow farmworker. On 21 August, his case was transferred to the regional court due to its seriousness.

The 42-year-old man is facing charges of murder, defeating the ends of justice, and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

He was arrested by the Waterval police back in April when he allegedly confessed to killing Vusi Nkosi (32), whom he worked with on a farm in Skoonspruit.

Nkosi was reported missing by his mum after she noticed that he was absent from work and not answering his cellphone. His corpse was discovered in the bushes, hidden under rocks with hunting rifles. This was after the suspect revealed to the police that he had shot him.

Since his arrest, Visagie has told the court that he has no intention of applying for bail

A 25-year-old farm manager and his three accomplices are expected to apply for bail in the Middelburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 17 September.

Reinhardt Steyn (25), a farm manager, and his three co-accused Dumisani Masilela (33), Stephan Wilson (30), who is a Malawian national, and Dumisani Luthuli (32) are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault with the intention to cause Grievous Bodily Harm.

The charges stem from an incident where two villagers, Thembeni Mnguni (39) and Wanda Mahlangu (21), were allegedly kidnapped and assaulted in August this year.

The duo was accused of stealing sheep on Elsias Farm in Laersdrif, outside Middelburg. It’s alleged that Thembeni was on his way to pick up his car, which had run out of petrol on the road leading to Elsias Farm, when Steyn and Masilela accosted him and accused him of stealing sheep.

The accused allegedly interrogated Thembeni and forced him to show them where the sheep were. They then drove to another house where they picked up Wanda. The families of the two men said the pair were then taken to a village where they were told to show where they had kept the sheep.

It’s reported that the victims didn’t cooperate, and the accused drove them back to Elsias Farm, where they allegedly assaulted them with sticks and upon realising that they were unconscious, they burnt their bodies.

The suspects were initially charged with kidnapping and assault. However, the state added charges of murder, assault GBH, and malicious damage to property after there were new developments in the investigation.

The remains believed to be that of the victims were found dumped on the R575 road leading to the N4 road. The DNA testing process has already begun.

Magistrate Solomon Gololo granted the defence permission to access the summary of the docket after they made an application.
