Gift of the Givers comes to the aid of stranded motorists
Teams from humanitarian aid organisation Gift of the Givers are in contact with various pilots, tow truck companies and people within their network in the snow-covered areas of KwaZulu-Natal to find out what assistance can be provided.
“Right now, helicopters cannot fly, tow trucks cannot move and the N3 and alternative routes are blocked due to heavy snowfall,” said Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of Gift of the Givers.
He said graders are the only practical solution at this time while we wait for the snow to melt.
“Motorists and their families have been calling for help. People are running out of food and water and need blankets in the extreme cold.
“We are concerned about people who have to be evacuated due to medical conditions,” Sooliman said.
He said their vehicles are “loaded with relevant supplies” and urged a number of garages and businesses to provide hot drinks and snacks to motorists, their families and truck drivers in need of assistance.
“We prepared meals and drinks for passers-by at a community centre in Estcourt,” Sooliman said.
