Hospital Horror: Woman found hanging in bathroom | Daily Sun

A SAD incident has shaken the medical community at Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Pretoria.

This comes after a 36-year-old female patient was discovered dead in a bathroom, hanging from a cellphone charger cable.

The tragic event occurred on Monday, September 23, sending shockwaves through the hospital and sparking an investigation by police.

The patient had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday, September 21.

Department of Health spokesperson Khutso Rabothata said that on the fateful day, a nurse conducting her rounds around 1 pm noticed a locked bathroom door.

After knocking repeatedly without receiving a response, she enlisted the help of another nurse to force open the door.

The gruesome discovery that awaited them has left hospital staff reeling.

Furthermore, he said that immediate efforts to resuscitate the patient were undertaken, but unfortunately, a doctor certified her dead at the scene.

“The hospital has swung into action, providing counselling and support to staff members traumatised by the event.

The Gauteng Department of Health has extended its deepest condolences to the patient’s family during this difficult time and reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe and compassionate healthcare,” he said.

“The Gauteng Department of Health is cooperating fully with the SAPS investigation and remains dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care. This tragic event serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of vigilance and support in healthcare settings,” said Rabothata.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed that investigations are underway.

“Garankuwa SAPS have lodged an inquest into a death which is suspected to be a suicide,” he said.
