SPORTS fans have a chance to honour their favourite Gauteng athletes for the 2024 Gauteng Sports Awards from 1 August to 30 September.
This was revealed by the MEC for Education, Sports, Arts and Recreation, Matome Chiloane on Wednesday, 4 September. The athletes will be honoured for their hard work and significant achievements.
These nominees must be strictly Gauteng residents or Gauteng-based athletes, clubs, and administrators per category.
The unchanged 20 awards categories from previous years include Sportsperson of the Year, Personality of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Sports Team of the Year, Disabled Sports Team of the Year, Disabled Sportsman of the Year, Disabled Sportswoman of the Year, Coach of the Year, Most Promising Athlete of the Year, Technical Official of the Year, Sports Federation of the Year, Amayanga-Yanga Player of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Community-Based Sport and Recreation Programme of the Year, Sport Photographer of the Year, Community Sport Media of the Year, Sports Journalist of the Year (print, radio, and television), Fan of the Year, as well as Lifetime Achievement Award.

MEC Chiloane said this year’s period has been extended to include the recently held Olympics and ongoing Paralympics.
“The awards are highly anticipated after an exciting and successful sporting season with many athletes, federations and clubs working hard and achieving significant success,” said Chiloane.
He further hailed the province for producing many successful athletes, labelling it as a home of champions with several sportsmen and women who excelled at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the Under-20 World Athletics.
Meanwhile, the finalists will be announced on 31 October, including the prize money involved. The awards will be held on 17 November 2024.
