‘Fatigue’ could be to blame for deadly cross-border bus crashes

In the latest incident, a bus travelling from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe overturned on the N1 outside Mokopane on Sunday.

The crash claimed the lives of five people.

It comes just days after ten Zimbabwean nationals were killed when their bus crashed on the N1 in Louis Trichardt.

They were on their way to Johannesburg at the time of the crash.

The MEC’s spokesperson, Phuti Lekganyane, said Sunday’s crash also injured scores of other passengers.

They are receiving medical attention at Mokopane Hospital.

“This is the second fatal accident in less than five days affecting cross-border public transport operations,” said Lekganyane.

“This gives rise to suspicions that these drivers do not get enough before undertaking these long journeys.”
