Eastern Cape principal brutally murdered, extortionists demand R50k ‘protection fee’

The Eastern Cape Department of Education has condemned the brutal murder of Zakhele primary school principal.

The principal was killed inside school premises on Wednesday, 28 August in KwaBhaca.

EASTERN CAPE PRINCIPAL SHOT DEAD IN SCHOOL

Eastern Cape Department of Education spokesperson Mali Mtima said the alleged perpetrator who was foot quickly disappeared into a nearby forest.

Mtima said police were called to the scene and they could not locate the suspect.

As a result, learners and teachers were dismissed after the incident and were also asked not to come to school on Thursday.

The school governing body (SGB) is set to hold a meeting on Monday, 2 September in order to provide an update on the case and how the department will support the school.

EXTORTIONISTS DEMAND R50K ‘PROTECTION FEE’

In a separate incident also in the Eastern Cape a group of extortionists allegedly stormed Efata school for the blind and demanded R50 000 from the school’s nurse.

“Upon his refusal, they took his mobile phone, laptop and television. The same criminals sent an SMS to the principal demanding the R50 000,” Mtima said.

A case of extortion has been opened as the Eastern Cape Department of Education also referred the matter to police.
