COSATU North West congratulates Elizabeth Mokua on her appointment to the Executive Council – COSATU

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the North West province congratulates Elizabeth Sempe Mokua for her appointment as Member of the Executive Council in the province.

Comrade Lizzy, as she is affectionately known, is the first woman to head up the Department of Public Works and Roads in the province.

Mokua’s appointment confirms the notion that the ANC is an organisation that recognises people based on their capabilities and not exclusively on their gender, hence she has been put in charge of a male-dominated sector.

We also believe that she has the necessary capacity to transform this critical sector to be more inclusive, as this will primarily be the measure she will be assessed against.

Comrade Lizzy is the former Provincial Chairperson of NEHAWU, and member of the COSATU, ANC and South African Communist Party Provincial Executive Committee. This makes her the embodiment of the Tripartite Alliance as she has led all three components of it.

COSATU North West is confident that she is equal to the task ahead and wishes her all the best.

Issued by:

COSATU North West Provincial Secretary, Kopano Konopi, 082 339 5836
