LIMPOPO – The Tshilwavhusiku police are investigating the murder of a 12-year-old girl, whose body was found by passersby in a mealie field at Ramantsha early on September 17.
Adivhaho Mulamavu was a Gr 6 learner at Manau Primary School and went missing a day before her body was found.
The local community expressed shock over the brutal way in which she was murdered, and parents were left frightened and concerned over the safety of their children.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Vuledzani Dathi confirmed the incident, expressing the possibility that the girl had been raped before her body was hanged.
“She suffered several stab wounds to the body, which led to her death,” he confirmed.
The police opened cases of rape and murder and Dathi urged the community to come forward with information.
“We appeal to the community to cooperate with the police, so that the culprit can be arrested,” he said.
The girl’s grandmother, Anikie Mulamavu said they are still trying to come to terms with her death.
“The incident really affected us. It will take a long time to get over this, but we put our trust in the police. We pray that the suspect will be found, even if we will never get our beloved Adivhaho back,” she said. Mulamavu said the family expressed their concerns about Adivhaho’s death.
“She did not deserve to die like this. The incident has disturbed every member of the family and it is difficult for us to accept the loss,” said Mulamavu.
She said Adivhaho went to the village to sell tomatoes on the Sunday prior to her death at 09:00. When she had not returned at 14:00 they started phoning friends and relatives.
“No one could find her and on Monday we got the news. We found her body hanging from the tree, still with the bucket of tomatoes next to her.”
Ronewa was buried at Ramantsha cemetery on September 21.
