Bellville Police Station ranks high in crime detection, sees mixed results in latest stats | News24


For common robbery, Bellville placed 15th nationally, ranking 6th in the province with an increase of 11 counts, bringing it to 70, compared to last year’s 59 counts.

  • Bellville police station ranked 30th nationally and 21st in the province for crimes detected as a result of police action.
  • The station saw improvements in common robbery, ranking 15th nationally and 6th in the province, as well as reductions in property-related crimes.
  • However, Bellville also experienced a significant increase in drug-related crimes, with 165 more counts than the previous year.

Bellville featured in the latest quarterly crime stats, the
first of the 2024- ‘25 financial year, released by the South African Police
Service (Saps) last week in good ways, and bad.

 On the upside,
Bellville police station ranked 30th in the national Top 30 stations for crimes
detected as a result of police action. In the province, Bellville ranked 21st
with an increase in crimes detected. From April to June last year, Bellville
registered several 154 counts, which has increased to 314 with a whopping 160
counts higher.

 For common robbery,
Bellville placed 15th nationally, ranking 6th in the province with an increase
of 11 counts, bringing it to 70, compared to last year’s 59 counts.

 In property-related
crimes, Bellville featured in the Top 30 in 26th place nationally, and fourth
in the province. However, this time saw a decrease of 112 counts from 436 last
year, lowered to 324 in the latest quarter.

 On the Top 30 list
for theft out of or from a motor vehicle, Bellville is listed at number 13
nationwide, and fourth again for the province. The counts here also show
improvement with last year’s figures of 216, down by 44 counts to 172 this
year.

 Concerning commercial
crime, Bellville took 16th place nationally, placing third in the province,
this time with a decrease in counts from last year’s 249 to 243.

 For other serious
crime, which includes all serious crimes not previously mentioned, like all
theft not mentioned elsewhere, commercial crime and shoplifting, Bellville
ranked in 19th in the Top 30. Provincially, Bellville sits in fifth place with
a marginal increase of five counts when compared to last years’ 554 cases.

 For drug-related
crime, Bellville ranked 22nd provincially and 26th overall. The counts saw a
significant increase of 165 counts to 265 from last year’s 100.
