AG report | Only one clean audit from 11 Gauteng municipalities

JOHANNESBURG – Compliance with legislation is not improving and remains a stumbling block to good governance.

That’s according to Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Development Lebogang Maile, who says most municipalities in Gauteng still don’t comply with procurement legislation.

Maile’s briefing comes a few days after the Auditor-General’s report on local government audit outcomes.

WATCH: Discussion | Auditor-General Report | Number of clean audits declining

Many Gauteng municipalities remain in the red and need urgent improvement.

Midvaal remains the only municipality out of the 11 in Gauteng that achieved a clean audit.

The provincial government will be intensifying training for senior managers at struggling municipalities to improve their financial systems and, in turn, services for the residents.
