CAPE TOWN – Barely a week after Riverlands in the Swartland Municipality was flooded, residents were forced to flee their homes again.
On 8 August, flooding occurred after two retention dams collapsed, leading to the overflow of a third.Â
On Saturday, the Swartland Municipality was again forced to evacuate a number of residents.

And it seems this time an engineering mishap has once again led to human tragedy for the residents of the town.
The new flooding caused more severe property and infrastructure damage, with parts of the town still without water and electricity.Â
Residents now want answers: Who will take responsibility for the latest flooding and who will bear the costs to compensate them for their losses?Â
