Brace for a mixed bag of disruptive wind and waves, as well as light snow and fire warnings, in multiple areas across the country, according to the South African Weather Service.

Impact-Based Warnings

• Orange Level 6 warning for damaging wind and waves: Coastal infrastructure and small harbours between Cape Agulhas and Port Edward are at risk due to strong winds and waves.

• Orange Level 6 warning for damaging interior winds: Travel services and settlements in the south-western parts of the Eastern Cape may face disruptions due to strong winds.

• Orange Level 6 warning for damaging waves: Coastal areas between Alexander Bay and Cape Agulhas are expected to experience damaging waves.

• Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging wind: High-sided vehicles may face difficult driving conditions in the extreme southern parts of the Northern Cape, central and eastern parts of the Western Cape, south-western parts of the Free State, and western parts of the Eastern Cape.

• Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging waves: Small harbours and ports between Port Edward and Durban may face disruptions due to damaging waves.

• Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive snow: Light snow and icy roads are expected over the mountainous parts of Cape Winelands in the Western Cape, potentially closing non-major passes for short periods.

Fire Danger Warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the extreme north-eastern part of the North West, extreme north-western part of KwaZulu-Natal, and places in Limpopo.

Advisories

The second cold front affecting the Western, Northern, and Eastern Cape provinces will pass through during the morning. The public and small stock farmers are advised of snowfalls over the mountains, freezing conditions, strong to gale force interior and coastal winds, and very rough seas. Very cold conditions over parts of the interior are expected to persist into Thursday.

The wind along the coast will be strong to gale force south-westerly.
