Players from the Gert Sibande Regional team competed against players from the Nkangala (Middelburg area) and Ehlanzeni (Lowveld) in the Mpumalanga Rugby Union Regional Cup at Sasol Recreational Club on August 10.
Despite being a home-ground advantage, Gert Sibande lost their match 29-26 to Nkangala. Points were scored by Pieter van Niekerk of the Sasol Rugby Club with one try and three conversations.
Ruben Silvo, also from the Sasol Rugby Club, scored a try. Hugo Beeslaar of the Bethal Rugby Club scored a try and Siya Manqele from the Newcastle Rugby Club scored a try.
The men of the match for Gert Sibande were backline Pieter van Niekerk in his number 10 jersey and forward Hugo Beeslaar wearing his number 8.
Gert Sibande will travel to the Lowveld this weekend for their final game.
The Gert Sibande Regional team has been chosen out of clubs Newcastle, Standerton, Ermelo, Bethal, Secunda and eMbalenhle.
