POLOKWANE – Locals have been urged to tune into provincial public and local broadcasters from 10:00 to witness the opening of the seventh administration of the Provincial Legislature today, at the Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane.

This is according to Speaker Mmakoma Makhurupetje who said this is to accommodate the public who are not physically invited to the sitting.

Around 800 guests are expected to fill the venue this morning.

R2.5m has been budgeted for the event where the province’s first female premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba will deliver her maiden speech.

Host municipality, Polokwane has confirmed to the Polokwane Observer that some streets in the vicinity of Jack Botes Hall will be closed between 10:00 – 12:00.

Outside of the specified period, traffic officers will assist motorists and pedestrians on the affected roads.

The municipality’s Kgaugelo Mphago listed the affected roads as:

⁃Bodenstein between Landdros Maré and Church Streets.

⁃Genl Joubert between Rabe and Bodenstein Streets

⁃Market between Rabe and Bodenstein Streets

⁃Church between Thabo Mbeki and Bodenstein Streets

⁃Pres Paul Kruger between Thabo Mbeki and Bodestein Streets

Makhurupetje said they did not anticipate disruptions, however, protests have become inherent in such government gatherings from advocacy groups and often opposition political parties or unions.
