Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane announced that the application for grade 1 and 8 pupils has been extended.
PARENTS who are applying for school placement for their children have received the green light.
Gauteng Education MEC, Matome Chiloane announced on Sunday, 11 August that applications for grade 1 and 8 pupils have been extended to Wednesday, 14 August.
“We are aware that the system went down on 9 August and in the early hours of 10 August. We were alerted by parents that they were struggling to upload and complete the application and there was an issue with State Information Technology Agency’s (SITA) who managed to resolve the system,” said Chiloane
He said this led to the parents losing two days to apply for their children.
Chiloane said the department decided to extend the closing date from Monday, 12 August to Wednesday, 14 August for parents to apply and complete the application.
He said the department had received 768 666 applications for both grades 1 and 8 by Friday, 9 August.

Chiloane said since the deadline has been extended to Wednesday, 14 August, the deadline for the submission of documents for parents to comply is Wednesday, 21 August.
“All parents by that time should have completed their applications and submitted the necessary documents. I want to reach out to parents, let’s avoid submitting fraudulent documents because once we pick it up it means the application has failed,” said Chiloane
Parents and guardians who have already applied to schools are reminded that certified copies of documents must be submitted to schools or uploaded by noon on Wednesday, 21 August.
A certified copy of the proof of home address is an essential document as it is used to determine placement.
Applicants who have not submitted or uploaded certified copies of proof of home address by Wednesday, 21 August will have incomplete applications and therefore will not receive any placement offer.
