“It was a fantastic time at Northern Cape. We had a successful few years there. They were absolutely brilliant to me in terms of support for me and support for the team. I am really going to miss my time at Northern Cape,” Charlton told Club Cricket SA.

“This is a family move – going to the Eastern Cape. It comes at the right time. I’m excited to work with the Warriors, who have put together a really good squad.

“I am sure I will learn a lot from working alongside Robin. I am looking forward to working with a team I am very passion about.”

Charlton coached Northern Cape to successive 4-Day Domestic Series, division two, titles. Assistant coach Deon Carolus has been named interim head coach since Charlton’s exit.

“I have learnt so much from Mark. There are exciting times ahead and everybody strives to go to division one – and therefore we are going to give it our utmost best,” Carolus told DFA.

“I think we have put together a brilliant group of cricketers, so hopefully we can achieve that goal that we set out in year one.”

Northern Cape have confirmed several pre-season signings, including fast bowlers Stefan Tait and Hardus Viljoen – and batsmen Cole Abrahams and Ronan Herrmann.

“Stefan bowls at the speed of light. Hardus played for South Africa. Ronan played for the Joburg Super Kings. Cole from the Lions has also joined us – as well as Tian Koekemoer. We have exciting cricketers and a bunch of athletes eager to perform,” concluded Carolus.
