The officer is facing charges after a heated argument with officers from the Ekurhuleni metro police, which was caught on video.Â
He is accused of intimidating a metro police officer when he was called to the scene by the driver of a car with foreign number plates and without the necessary documents.
An altercation ensued, with the metro cops trying to impound the vehicle.
A police complaint was laid against the traffic officer, including assault, intimidation, and interfering with police duties.
Gauteng Department of Community Safety spokesperson Sello Maremane said they have also launched an internal probe.
“We strongly condemn the use of non-verbal violent language in the video, which displays disrespect and infringes on one’s right to integrity.
“The department is aware of the charges laid against the traffic officer by the EMPD and has currently put the matter under investigation so that appropriate action is taken to ensure the integrity and professionalism of law enforcement officials.”
