Another fatal accident on the N1 at Verkeerdevlei in the Free State claimed the lives of three persons while four miraculously survived with injuries in the early hours of this Monday, August 5. The tragic accident reportedly involved two light vehicles that collided head-on at approximately 04:52.

There is uncertainty about the cause of the fatal accident.

Free State Department of Health spokesperson Mondli Mvambi said a hydraulic rescue tool was used to free a person trapped in one of the wrecked vehicles. He said the man was one of four who survived with serious injuries.

“The survivors with serious injuries were transported to the Pelonomi Hospital trauma unit, and the other two with moderate injuries were transported to Windburg Hospital by Emergency Management Services (EMS) and ER24 ambulance,” Mvambi said.

He said all the passengers in the two cars were men. “The other three deceased men died on the spot of the accident,” Mvambi said.
