Former Mpumalanga NPA boss fired for bribing prosecutor

He was fired following an internal an arbitration process.

Luphondo was found guilty of bringing the NPA into disrepute after bribing a prosecutor in Pretoria Magistrates Court in order to withdraw a case against a senior official in the Mpumalanga Human Settlement Department.

“The allegations of bribery, alternatively gross dishonesty against Luphondo are a contravention of clause 4.3.4 (a) of the NPA Code of Ethics,” said NPA Spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga.

He says the NPA adheres to strict anti-corruption policies and practices and has a zero-tolerance approach to corruption within its ranks.

“Adv Luphondo, in particular as a senior manager in the NPA, should have acted at all times with the highest ethical standards and executed his duties without fear, favour or prejudice,” he adds.

Meanwhile the criminal trial against Luphondo is underway at the High Court in Pretoria.
