EMPD OFFICER LAYS ASSAULT CHARGES AGAINST GAUTENG TRAFFIC OFFICER – City of Ekurhuleni

Following the video that has gone viral on Social Media platforms regarding the Gauteng Traffic Police attacking and insulting EMPD offices, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Safety (MMC) in Ekurhuleni Ald Sizakele Masuku has come out to condemn the intimidation of the EMPD officers by a Gauteng Traffic officer.

The incident unfolded in Dekema Road in Wadeville yesterday when a on-duty female EMPD officer stopped a car with foreign registration plates. When the officer discovered that there was no proper documentation for the car, she informed the driver that it was being confiscated. The driver called the ‘husband’ who arrived swiftly in full uniform of the Gauteng Traffic Department – and that is when the alleged abuse of the EMPD officer started.

“This is unacceptable behaviour and the law must take its course. What is even sad is that these are colleagues who should be working together to protect our people,” says MMC Masuku.

“No one is above the law in this country and such barbaric behavior especially by an officer of the law is definitely regrettable.”

Cases of intimidation, common assault, crimen injuria, defeating the ends of justice and interfering with police duties were opened by the EMPD immediately after the abuse by the Gauteng provincial officer.

The MMC is calling for speedy investigation into the matter so that appropriate action can be taken against the alleged perpetrator.
