Two to face trial for murder after body of missing woman found in grave at Thabong cemetery | News24

Two men appeared in court in Welkom following the disappearance and murder of Disebo Portia Mosupa (30), a member of the ANC Free State Youth League.

Andile Siyoko (42) and Lawrence Ncanca (37) appeared briefly in court on Tuesday, July 23. They were denied bail.

Mosupa’s friend Siyoko had already been arrested the day before, while Ncanca was arrested on Friday.

Mosupa was reported missing on July 15. A search team consisting of police, community and family members followed leads that led to the Thabong Cemetery, where her body was found in an existing grave.

Netwerk24 reported earlier that Mosupa’s father had been to her home on July 14 and had not found her there. When he went to visit her again on Monday, the house was searched. That’s when he reported her missing.

Mosupa was employed by the Matjhabeng Municipality, where she worked as an acting youth development officer.

On Tuesday, Mathabo Leeto, MEC for Social Development, and Free State Premier Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae visited Mosupa’s family.

Mathae expressed her concern about the killings of women by their partners. She said they have visited several survivors in the Free State to offer their condolences, and now they are at a loss for words to make families feel better about the ongoing gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) against women and children.

“Serious measures must be taken to stop GBVF and protect defenceless women and children,” says Mathae.

The case is being investigated further. Siyoko and Ncanca will appear again in the Welkom Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 22 August.
