Traffic updates and safety alerts in Cape Winelands

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple severe weather warnings for the Western Cape from Saturday, 27 July until Monday, 29 July.

The SAWS warns the public and small stock farmers about expected intermittent heavy downpours, snowfalls, very cold conditions, strong winds, road damage and potential accidents.

Wolseley:

The Wolseley Police is requesting all vehicle drivers to slow down immediately on the R46 and the R43.

The visibility on these roads is very poor, there are large potholes forming and the road surface is very wet.

Please switch on your headlights.

When the visibility is very poor please increase your vehicle’s visibility by utilizing your hazard lights.

Do not overtake vehicles if you do not have a clear line of sight on the oncoming traffic.


Bainskloof Pass:

Due to weather conditions, the Wellington side of the Bainskloof Pass has been closed as of 27 July 16:50.

For your safety, please avoid this area and seek alternative routes for your travels.


Paarl:

Several roads within the vicinity of Paarl have been flooded.

  • The corner of Jan van Riebeeck Drive and Fairview, next to the Huguenot Community Hall.
  • The corner of Van Der Stel and Ribbok Street.
  • Main Road in Northern Paarl, near Paarl Gimnasium High.
