A police officer and four other people died in a car crash following a head-on collision on the R540 Road between Dullstroom and Belfast on Thursday.
The police officer, who was driving a marked police vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision with a white double cab.
“Two female occupants and one male occupant from the other vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital, where the two females later succumbed to their injuries. This afternoon (Friday, 05 July 2024), it was confirmed that the male occupant also succumbed to his injuries,” reads the police statement.
The report indicates that one of the females and the male were tourists from the United States of America (USA).
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
