Limpopo Health slams reports of Mpox case in Ba-Phalaborwa

The Limpopo health department has dismissed reports of a confirmed case of Mpox disease in the Ba-Phalaborwa local municipality.

A local community newspaper is reporting that a 64-year-old pensioner with symptoms of the virus was admitted at Maphutha Malatji hospital in Namakgale, where tests were run and came back positive for Mpox.

But provincial health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana says these reports are entirely untrue.

Shikwambana says there have been no confirmed cases of Mpox in Ba-Phalaborwa or anywhere in the province since the outbreak began in May this year.

He has called on community members to remain calm and continue to take precautionary measures to avoid contracting the disease.
