Limpopo Health refutes report of Mpox case in the province

The Limpopo health department has refuted reports claiming a confirmed case of Monkeypox in the Ba-Phalaborwa local municipality.

The department’s remarks follow a report by a local community newspaper stating that a 64-year-old pensioner with Mpox symptoms had been admitted to Maphutha Malatji Hospital in Namakgale and tests conducted reportedly confirmed the virus in the patient.

Provincial health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana denied these reports, stating that there have been no confirmed cases of Mpox in Ba-Phalaborwa or anywhere else in the province since the outbreak began in May this year.

He has urged community members to stay calm and continue practising precautionary measures to prevent contracting the virus.

“We, therefore, wish to request the public to desist from spreading fake and unverified information also we want to request our media to first check with us or bounce their fact with the Limpopo Department of Health before they can publish this kind of information.”
